Gordon Brothers has a long-standing commitment to the community – something that is core to each of our 300 employees located around the world. We recently completed our 11th annual Global Give Back day where all of our 25 offices volunteer for a day.
In Boston, more than 60 employees spent a day at Herter Park, one of the many parks along the 20-mile Charles River Reservation. This park provides intensely used open space for the bordering urban neighborhoods of Allston, Brighton and Cambridge. It features a large playground, community garden, outdoor theater for performances, and much more. Gordon Brothers employees broke into small groups and pairs to clear brush, pull weeds, paint benches, and pick up trash. Our collective efforts resulted in a wonderful facelift for the park. Employees painted 18 benches, filled 115 bags of brush debris, and collected 200 pounds of litter.
In Mequon, WI, employees split into two groups. The first group got their hands dirty, assisting The River Revitalization Foundation (RRF). Tasks included cleaning up brush and planting trees near the Milwaukee River. Our second group dedicated their day to an organization called Next Door. We helped this organization by cleaning and organizing books for children.
In London, UK, our team worked at Holland Park. Holland Park is the Royal Borough’s largest park with 22.5 hectares (almost 56 acres) of gardens, children’s play facilities, sports areas, a café, and large areas of woodland abundant with wildlife. Holland Park provides facilities for tennis, football, golf and more. Health walks and other activities are also run in the park. A few highlights were learning to cut tall grass with scythes, and also completing an assignment of weeding an entire field with rapid pace. Scythes were used in replacement of more modern tools in order to protect the natural habitats used by local wildlife.
Global Give Back Day 2017 was a huge success thanks to our local planning teams and the enthusiastic participation of Gordon Brothers’ employees and partner organizations around the world.
